Ephemera Commission
Ephemera Commission
Ephemera commissions are perfect for birthdays, weddings, memorials, bar/bat mitvah, quinceañera, alumni gatherings - any moment built upon memories. They make wonderful gifts to share amongst friends or family. Preserve pieces of ephemera that are meaningful to you, your family or your business. Or have Tanja design a piece from her own collection by key word. Ephemera commissions lend financial support to the larger ephemera project.
“This is a beautiful way to turn bits and pieces of a life into art. We frame family photos to mark time and keep memories alive; this is a step beyond that. The process of choosing and prioritizing our sacred or meaningful ephemera is in itself a powerful act, but then to hand objects over to an artist to interpret, order, and reproduce is a fabulous externalization of all that private meaning. These things are ours, and then they become not ours, and then they are given back to us in new form and shape, with an objective gaze layer, which renders them collectively so much more special!” - Elisa Albert
“I took some time to consider what would be appropriate in choosing the items of someone who’s died. If you knew Kanishka, you knew that he was very particular in the way that he presented himself… These small objects with little or no meaning and those that hold the whole power of his being came together in a beautiful portrait of the man I loved. They move from simple to the sublime, from ordinary to extraordinary. When I look at this image, I can see him and I smile.” -Juli Raja (More about Kanishka Raja)
“When I opened the gift (a print of Zia Sunta’s belongings), I was speechless, then in tears. I felt as if I was unearthing a now eternal memory of someone long gone, who was finally going to be forever with me. The two objects that I care about the most: the scissors she’d always promised I’d have, and the watch, my last gift to her when she was losing track of time at the hospital. I love how the dressing gown on the left—her absolute favorite “leisure” garment—is placed opposite a piece of her ceremonial dress, which she wore when my grandparents got married. She was buried wearing the rest of that set.” - Luna Cardilli (More about Zia Sunta)
